The Arts - Drama

As part of our Arts programme, Room 12 has been unleashing their dramatic sides...

In groups of 4, we had to create a dramatic re-telling of a Maori myth or legend.
To be successful we had to make sure:
- All members played a character.
- All members participated with dialogue.
- All voices were clear and loud.
- All members used facial expressions/body language.
- All members knew the play and their role in it.
- The play was a success, and the audience understood the story.

Jingles

Parents of Room 12 may remember the Sanitarium ad for Peanut Butter in the early 1990's, "I'm an utter peanut butter nutter..."
Well we watched that last week, and were inspired to write our own jingles.

Foggy Mornings

You may remember there was a very foggy morning last week, the perfect opportunity for some descriptive writing. We were especially trying to use similes and metaphors. Enjoy!

I wake up in the morning and look out frozen my window, All I can see is fog. I get ready for school, then leave. Walking, it is as cold as ice. I can’t see 5 meters in front. It is so cold it feels like the fog is stabbing me. When I get to school the heat rushes into me...

As the sun glistens on the fog, the fog tries even harder to hold its place. Water drips off the grass down on to the dirt. It reaches out and grabs me. As I go down, he tells me what his life is about.

The fog is as white as an elegant pearl.
Mysterious, gloomy arms come out of nowhere and grab me in a blink of an eye.
I feel the fog but there nothing to feel.
I see tinted white clouds surrounding me.
Is there a way to get out?

Neeve

Foggy, cold, smells like ice. It looks like a big ghost with ice swimming around you. You can feel the fog hugging your hands and your legs. My legs feel like they are going to be an ice cube. It tastes yuck and cold.
Summer

I walk outside, the fog is as cold as ice. The white blanket follows me to school. The sun blinds me. All I can see is darkness. I touch something sticky. I open my eyes and look at my hand. There is a web. The web grasps my palm and won’t let go. The web looks glorious.

I am walking to school and the fog gathers around me like bees to honey.
I cant see.
The wind pulls the trees back and forth.
It looks like a frozen snowstorm that never blows away.
It feels as cold as ice.
It sounds as if you were to talk, the wind would just blow your words away.
Finally I get to school “Phew what a relief”.
Jahmiah

The fog is as cold as ice chasing after me as I walk slowly. I take one breath, the coldness attacks me. It looks like summer but it feels like winter. It’s a ghost surrounding me where ever I go.

As the fog rushes into my body, my body freezes.
I can hear the trees whispering to each other. I
think, “This just looks like smoke”. Heading back
to the classroom I can see the icy fog clearing
out all around.

The fog is as cold as ice as it drifts around Wattle Downs. The windows are full with condensation from the fog. Footsteps move through the fog. The fog pulls me with his icy hands, a grey shadow of smoke.

I walk outside, suddenly the cold fog wraps me up like a blanket. Im walking to school. I can see are car’s bright shining lights, the boring path and mysterious fog! It looks like spooky ghosts surrounding me. Ahhhhh, Im trapped, nowhere to get out. It feels like I’m getting swooped away by Jack Frost. He’s taking me to the sky it seems like it, because the clouds are so low! I’m amongst all of the clouds. I feel freezing cold but relaxed as I come back inside. It disappears slowly, I say goodby happily.

Free choice writing - "Adventures"

Mum said ‘‘Come on you need to get dressed Sam.”
“But Mum ten more minutes and then I will get dressed for school.”
Mum said ’‘Your sister is dressed, fine.”
4 hours later, I was on the bus and I got kicked off the bus. I was walking and saw a big forest, but before the bus stopped my best friend came out, she came with me. We went inside then saw a very tall tree house. It was old. We went inside but we got lost ................
