Rocket Writing

As a warm-up before writing, sometimes Room 12 does Rocket Writing. Rocket Writing is when we have 3 minutes to write about a mystery topic. We don't find out the topic until the countdown begins.

Today our topic was: My Dad.

My dad is the best. When it comes to stock cars he drives and drives all day long. My dad is the best at everything, even boxing. Ding ding ding! That is the sound of my dad knocking someone out. My dad is cool. When it comes to baseball he will hit the ball all the way to the USA. My dad is the best.

My Dad is tall, he has orange, scruffy hair, people call him Freddy or Freddy Cougar, but I love him because he’s my dad. 

He plays sport with me. He comes to my netball games to support me. I’ll tell you what though, when it comes to the rules of netball he’s oblivious!

My Dad’s funny, a great builder and will always stand up for me. Thats my Dad, who I will always love no matter what.

How will he fit in the toilet? How much will he eat? What will he eat? But my Dad is not like this. He is helpful lovely and much much more. My Dad. Is your Dad like this?

The end of the road for the bread experiment.

After 14 days of stinking up the classroom, the bread experiment is over, with some very interesting results.

How does food rot?

What makes food rot? What conditions do bacteria and fungi need to grow? And how can we stop food from rotting?.

Firstly, there are three things that make food rot. Two of them are bacteria and fungi. They are everywhere including the air and water. The third thing are enzymes. They are in every cell of every living thing.

Secondly, bacteria and fungi need certain things. They need warmth between 15 and 25 degrees, moisture, oxygen and food to eat.

Thirdly, there are some ways you can stop bacteria, fungi and enzymes. You can put your food in the fridge or freezer, you can put it in a jar or a tin, or you can dry it so there is no moisture.

How to play Badminton.

Badminton is an easy game to play and I will tell you what equipment you need and the right techniques.

Firstly you will need the right equipment. You will need a racket, a shuttlecock and net. A shuttlecock is like a spider web shaped into a cone. The racket is like a tennis racket but smaller.

Secondly you need the best techniques. One of the techniques is to hold the bottom of the shuttlecock with your finger tips then hit it over the net. Another of the techniques is to keep your eye on the shuttlecock. And keep practicing.

Lastly is to have fun playing with your friends and family. And keep practicing.

In conclusion you need the right equipment, the right techniques, and to keep practicing.

On Saturday I felt agitated because my sister badgered me with these questions from a magazine. I blabbed about it to my mum but she just watched T.V. I guessed my sister was  going to stop but she wouldn’t stop reading them out of that stupid, girly magazine. I was so bothered which was weird because she was so relaxed and calm. I threw the horrid magazine at the wall, well that didn’t help because she just picked it up and threw it at me! It didn’t actually hurt, but I agreed to do the lousy questions but she just went into her room and started to sing! She totally ditched her question magazine. Then I was boiling and enraged, my insides heated, I was so angry I hit the wall! Which really hurt.

5000  years ago the world was weird, every bit of the world was weird.  Cars had no wheels, it was people in a box painted like a car.  People had one eye, five noses, six ears, two mouths, ten arms, eight legs. Their race was called Idiot. One day the Cedar race came and made the Idiot people become the Cedar races slaves, but one day the Idiot race chose to fight back for their world and so a big fight started. The fight took three days till the Cedar people retreated and the Idiot people got their world back. Finally after three days of war the people are happy that the war is over with a win and that they don’t have to slave the Cedar. Now every thing is back to normal and everyone is happy but not the Cedar people.

Why does food rot?

Why does your food rot,your food rots because of all the bacteria, fungi, and the enzymes. bacteria, fungi and enzymes need. Also how to stop your food from rotting.

Firstly the things that make your food rot. Bacteria, fungi and enzymes are everywhere. In the soil, air and water and are even carried by humans and other living animals.

Secondly, what enzymes, bacteria and fungi need are warmth, approximately 15 - 25 degrees, also sugar, starch, oxygen and moisture.  

Lastly to stop enzymes, fungi and bacteria keep it frozen and try not to let the oxygen and the heat get to your food.

In conclusion your food rots because of the fungi and bacteria.

So this is what it feels like going to war. We are on the plane we have our parachutes ready to jump, it’s war.

Now we are heading to England for my first war in my whole life. We are New Zealand v Brazil. I hope I am not the last person in the war.

So we keep fighting we are winning but it gets better we are in ships heading to Chile, but they follow us. So are the Tongas, we are so nervous which team are they going to go on.

Right they went to Chile but we keep trying to defeat them.

Maths Strategies

In Room 12 we have learnt the following strategies for solving multiplication problems.

Multiplication

• Place Value Strategy

(Good for problems that have multiple digit numbers that end in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Eg. 6 x 15 = (6 x 10) + (6 x 5)

= 60 + 30

= 90

• Rounding and Compensating Strategy

(Good for problems that have multiple digit numbers that end in 6, 7, 8, 9)

Eg. 7 x 19 = (7 x 20) - (7 x 1)

= 140 - 7

= 133

• Doubling and Halving Strategy (Can also be applied as Tripling and Thirding)

E.g 5 x 46 = 10 x 23  (Double the ‘5’, and halve the ’46’)

= 230 

Or. 3 x 24 = 9 x 8     (Triple the ‘3’ and third the ’24’)

= 72

Kereru Swimming Day

Kereru Swimming Day

On Monday morning, the Kereru team hopped on a bus and went to Sykes Road Pools. The aim of the day was to get everyone to try swimming. We had 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m butterfly, 25m breaststroke and everything 50m too. We also had class games such as Pass the Pearl and a game of Hula Hoop Chain. Then there were two team relays; Doggy Paddle and Push the Ball with out your hands.

By the time we had got through everything and got back to school it was almost time to go home. It was an AWESOME DAY!!!!!

The wheelay was on the 17th of February 2012. That day it was a big day for Room 12 because they were in charge. Everyone was outside ready and then something bad happened. It started to rain and it got worse it became a thunder storm. Everyone was told to WALK to their teacher and that was the big day for Room 12.
