Spring is nearly Sprung.

Earlier in the year, each Rm 12-er chose a herb and wrote to explain why it would be a good idea for us to grow it. With Spring almost upon us, it is nearly time to get planting. Let's look back at our initial writing...

The Arts - Drama

As part of our Arts programme, Room 12 has been unleashing their dramatic sides...

In groups of 4, we had to create a dramatic re-telling of a Maori myth or legend.
To be successful we had to make sure:
- All members played a character.
- All members participated with dialogue.
- All voices were clear and loud.
- All members used facial expressions/body language.
- All members knew the play and their role in it.
- The play was a success, and the audience understood the story.

Poetic writing

Inspired by Philippa Werry's poem, Palm Tree. Room 12 wrote their own metaphor-ladden poetry.

Palm Tree

Cluster of exclamation marks - 

astonishment on a stick.

One-legged signpost

pointing everywhere.

Satellite dish

slanted to the sun.

A handful of combs

grooming the clouds.

A kennelful of shaggy dogs

straining on a lead.

A startled starfish

marooned high above the sea.

Hula skirts dancing

all by themselves.

Eighteen arms in droopy sleeves

waving gently in the breeze.

All these things until

the clouds darken,

the wind gets stronger,

the storm gets nearer.

The tree bends low - 

tosses, turns

into a cannon 

firing out lethal 

coconut

cannonballs.

Miss Salt: Cars

Electric pulses racing along blackened wires.

Hungry insects guzzling sap.

Angry bears growling and prowling.

Shiny jewels scattered far and wide.

Metal cheetahs sprinting lonely races.

A bird gliding near the ground.

Sunset rising.

Cheetahs sprinting across the plains.

Armadillos rolling.

Fingers pointing in different directions.

Cats moulting in summer.

Birds flapping their wings all day long.

Statues scattered, silent and still.

Earthquake building crashed to the ground.

A tiger roars when it gets angry.

Mud pools splashing bubbles of mud.

Metal elephants stampeding around the track.

Washing machine tyres spinning around.

Book pages flying.

Colby: Dragons

Hard scaly skin covering the sun.

Fires quick blazing out of a volcano.

Shark's teeth pointing everywhere.

A seagull gliding in the air.

Two legs traveling in the midnight light.

Gemma: A tree

A fledgling trying to fly.

Cat's scratching pole.

Scabbed all over.

A dribbly orthodontic patient.

A paper factory.

Briana: Gorgon

Strom-torn branch planted in the ground.

Misshappen pole topped by a storm.

Waterfall adorned by weeds.

Totem pole covered with grass.

Rotten tree, burning branches first.

Super fast cars racing to the finish line.
Snakes hissing at their predators.
Turtles walking so slow.
Hair molting when you brush it.
Different colours everywhere, it's a Rainbow fish.

Jingles

Parents of Room 12 may remember the Sanitarium ad for Peanut Butter in the early 1990's, "I'm an utter peanut butter nutter..."
Well we watched that last week, and were inspired to write our own jingles.
